Don Winslow was born in New York City and raised in the little village of Perryville, Rhode Island. The author of fifteen books and several short stories, he has also written for film and television. On his way to becoming a writer, Don did a number of things to make a living – movie theater manager, private investigator, safari guide, actor, theater director and consultant.
The Power of the Dog(2005) was chosen for the first ever Translated Mystery Grand Prize which goes to the best mystery or thriller in translation published in 2009. The award was created last year by prominent translators to encourage greater readership of mysteries and thrillers in translation.
Don Winslow's Savageswas voted one of the ten best books of 2010 by The New York Times, Entertainment Weekly, The Los Angeles Times and publications around the world. Savages is being made into a movie (directed and produced by Oliver Stone) and will open in theaters July 6, 2012. Be on the lookout for the prequel to Savages , The Kings of Cool, due for publication June 2012!
Don now lives on an old ranch in southern California.
