PASSAGE, THE by Justin Cronin - SIGNED FIRST EDITION BOOK

See all titles by Justin Cronin.

"It happened fast. Thirty-two minutes for one world to die, another to be born."

First, the unthinkable: a security breach at a secret U.S. government facility unleashes the monstrous product of a chilling military experiment. Then, the unspeakable: a night of chaos and carnage gives way to sunrise on a nation, and ultimately a world, forever altered. All that remains for the stunned survivors is the long fight ahead and a future ruled by fear—of darkness, of death, of a fate far worse.

As civilization swiftly crumbles into a primal landscape of predators and prey, two people flee in search of sanctuary. FBI agent Brad Wolgast is a good man haunted by what he's done in the line of duty. Six-year-old orphan Amy Harper Bellafonte is a refugee from the doomed scientific project that has triggered apocalypse. He is determined to protect her from the horror set loose by her captors. But for Amy, escaping the bloody fallout is only the beginning of a much longer odyssey—spanning miles and decades—towards the time and place where she must finish what should never have begun.

With The Passage, award-winning author Justin Cronin has written both a relentlessly suspenseful adventure and an epic chronicle of human endurance in the face of unprecedented catastrophe and unimaginable danger. Its inventive storytelling, masterful prose, and depth of human insight mark it as a crucial and transcendent work of modern fiction.

5 of 5 The Passage November 14, 2010
Reviewer: C. Bryce from Boulder City, NV United States
I haven't read a book this intense in a long time.  It had me from the very beginning - no preliminaries waiting for the interesting part.  I could barely leave it to do my daily tasks.  I appreciate when I turn a faucet the water comes out and when I flip a switch the light comes on.  I want to start stockpiling MREs.  The latter part of the book takes place in the southern Nevada desert  where I live.  I know all the places the author speaks of even when he changes the names.  The descriptions are vivid and accurate.  Justin Cronin is right on the money in the way he writes about places, events, and the way people would be feeling in their circumstances in the story.  I own the only bookstore in town and I'm buying extra copies of the book for my customers who like this intense type of post-apocalyptic story.  I also write book reviews for a couple of local papers and this one is going to be fun to write.  Summing it up, I recommend this book highly.

5 of 5 "It's been quite a ride!" November 2, 2010
Reviewer: John from Tualatin, OR
Have you ever wished that you had gotten that 1st printing of Dunning's Booked To Die when it was a mere $20? It's not too late to get in on a good deal. The book is Cronin's The Passage. We had the privilege of visiting with Justin and found him engaging, articulate, and a wonderfully charming man who signed stack after stack of books for us late into the evening. We caught up with him after he had already done another major signing, and media interviews. To quote him, "it's been quite a ride!"  He has written both a relentlessly suspenseful adventure and an epic chronicle of human endurance in the face of unprecedented catastrophe and unimaginable danger. Its inventive storytelling, masterful prose, and depth of human insight mark it as a crucial and transcendent work of modern fiction. Having already moved into later printings, signed 1st editions of this exciting new book have already shown considerable appreciation. Get yours today and join the club of those who got it early!
