No Way Out by Alan Jacobson I am a long time fan of Alan Jacobson, and have enjoyed watching his Karen Vail series grow from The 7th Victim to No Way Out.

Alan was in Portland for PNBA, and we were able to get together for a long lunch. It was the first time I have been able to see Alan since Thrillerfest 2009 in New York City. Since then we, through our Norwood Press imprint, have published three of Alan's books, Inmate 1577 (2011), Hard Target (2012), and this year's No Way Out.

No Way Out has received great reviews, and has been selected as one of Suspense Magazine's "Best Of 2013" books.

Alan is deep in the process of fleshing out his next novel, another Karen Vail thriller that will include taking us back to her early days at the FBI, and her assignment as a "profiler." As always Alan's research consumes much of his time, and is reflected in his intense attention to detail.

We may still see Karen Vail come to life as a motion picture, or mini-series, as discussions with Hollywood continue.

We talked about the passing of Vince Flynn, and the loss to the genre. Alan shared his near miss with the big "C" when a spot was discovered on his lung right after one of his first book tours. The process of diagnosis was intense, painful, and frightening. In the end it turned out to be an infection that was cured with antibiotics. We're glad it turned out to be something manageable.

Alan is one of our best friends in the business, and it was great to see him. We can't wait to see what is in store for Karen.
