Come Armageddon is the sequel to internationally renowned mystery author Anne Perry's fantasy debut, Tathea, a story about an exiled queen who finds an ancient book and then embarks on a journey to save the world from evil -- and find herself.
Five hundred years after Tathea was exiled in the Lost Lands, the immortal queen saves a newborn baby, Sadokhar, and raises him to become King of the Island at the Edge of the World. Along with other chosen leaders, Tathea and Sadokhar must gather their army for the final battle between the forces of good and Asmodeus, the Great Enemy.
While this novel is classified as a fantasy, the fantastical elements are very subtle, to say the least. It's more of an extended allegory about a woman's spiritual journey. The Great Enemy, the Lords of Sin, the Book, the Island at the Edge of the World, even Armageddon are both characters and elements of an epic story as well as symbols relating to an individual's struggle with morality. "Could that be what Armageddon was -- not consuming war at all, but the corrupted heart eaten away, until when the barbarians came in the end, there was nothing for them to conquer but decay? Was the end not violence at all, but a living rot?"
Dedicated Anne Perry fans looking for a story comparable to her popular Thomas and Charlotte Pitt and William Monk series should be warned that her Tathea cycle is a marked departure from her bestselling mystery novels. Come Armageddon is an introspective, philosophical, and deeply personal work.
