Winner of the 2009 Newbury Medal Award!

Nobody Owens, known to his friends as Bod, is a normal boy.

He would be completely normal if he didn't live in a sprawling graveyard, being raised and educated by ghosts, with a solitary guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor of the dead.

There are dangers and adventures in the graveyard for a boy-an ancient Indigo Man beneath the hill, a gateway to a desert leading to an abandoned city of ghouls, the strange and terrible menace of the Sleer.

But if Bod leaves the graveyard, then he will come under attack from Every Man Jack - the murderer who has already killed Bod's family...

Beloved master storyteller Neil Gaiman returns with a luminous new novel for the audience that embraced his New York Times bestselling modern classic Coraline. Magical, terrifying, and filled with breathtaking adventures, the graveyard book is sure to enthrall readers of all ages.

"Neil Gaiman, a renowned author of science fiction, fantasy, graphic novels and comics aimed at adults, won the John Newbery Medal for the year’s most outstanding contribution to children’s literature on Monday. Mr. Gaiman, 48, won for “The Graveyard Book,” a story about a boy who is raised in a cemetery by ghosts after his family is killed in the opening pages of the novel. In announcing the winner of what is widely considered the most prestigious honor in children’s literature, the Association for Library Service to Children, a division of the American Library Association, cited Mr. Gaiman’s work for its “delicious mix of murder, fantasy, humor and human longing,” noting its “magical, haunting prose.” - New York Times

5 of 5 Neil Gaiman? The Best! January 18, 2020
Reviewer: Louise S. from Sturbridge, MA United States
What can I say about a Neil Gaiman novel that has not already been said?

It was enthralling, intriguing, and inspiring. Not to mention, creepy and sinister. I teared up when I read the ending. Not just because I was sad the book was ending but because I had grown to care about what happened to the main character, Bod.

Nobody Owens lives in a graveyard. All he has learned has been by ghosts. He has a guardian. He's not a ghost but he's not alive either. There are many dangers that can be found in the graveyard but even more on the outside. The many friends he meets in the graveyard are committed to keeping him safe and educating him. You will meet them all and come to welcome them every time they appear. Find out how Bod ended up living in the graveyard and marvel at his time there.

I truly loved this book. As one reviewer said, You will love it to death. And I do.
