The scene at Manhattan's lower West Side clubs is hardcore, but no harder than Atticus Kodiak has to be to keep it under control. The perfect place, until Trouble stalks into the club. Atticus barely has time to recognize the target - fifteen-year-old Erika Wyatt - before the cold-eyed killer is after the girl with a wicked knife. Suddenly Atticus realizes it's time to start keeping his promises - and he can start by keeping Erika alive - if he can find her first. Erika's father, Colonel Wyatt, is the last man on earth he can expect cooperation from, and the one man who hates Atticus most. And when he finds Colonel Wyatt dying, a victim of his own sins, unable to protect or even control his willful daughter, Atticus knows he's back in the protection business. Wyatt won't say why Erika needs a bodyguard, but it soon becomes clear who the Colonel's shielding - and Atticus and his team are caught in a guarding situation so volatile, it threatens to destroy them all.
