Book Description

On a top-secret dive into the Pacific Ocean's deepest canyon, Jonas Taylor found himself face-to-face with the largest and most ferocious predator in the history of the animal kingdom. The sole survivor of the mission, Taylor is haunted by what he's sure he saw but still can't prove exists - Carcharodon megalodon, the massive mother of the great white shark. The average prehistoric Meg weighs in at twenty tons and could tear apart a Tyrannosaurus rex in seconds. Taylor spends years theorizing, lecturing, and writing about the possibility that Meg still feeds at the deepest levels of the sea. But it takes an old friend in need to get him to return to the water, and a hotshot female submarine pilot to dare him back into a high-tech miniature sub. Diving deeper than he ever has before, Taylor will face terror like he's never imagined. MEG is about to surface. When she does, nothing and no one is going to be safe, and Jonas must face his greatest fear once again.

5 of 5 Alten got me hook, line and sinker December 17, 2009

This book is what started my Steve Alten collection. I stumbled across this book, and thought I'd give it a shot (I love gigantic animal horror stories)  Quoting the back cover of this book, "Jurassic Shark" is definitley spot on. Alten spares no details in this story of a prehistoric shark that has lived in the depths of our unexplored oceans for an unknown length of time until surfacing (with some help). While the Meg navigates her new surroundings, she does so with a voracious appetite, terrorizing not only the largest marine mammals, but those few people who dare to hunt her down. For those of you who are into the "giant creature" horror stories, this is for you!

This is the first book of the Meg series. Currently, there are three more books that follow this one and a fifth (and final) installment is in the works. For those of you who enjoy this genre, keep your fingers crossed that this ends up on the big-screen!
