Dear John:

I recently received a book with a bookplate. What do I do with the bookplate? Do I paste it on the title page?

J.

John responds:

Do not "paste" the label on the page. We lay them inside the front board. Otherwise you risk damaging the book, and that, of course devalues it. Additionally, if you have the opportunity to have the author hand-sign the book, you can remove the bookplate and place it into another book.

A signed bookplate laid in is as if the book is signed.
