"How can you find out whether the US or UK book is the real true first edition?"

Anthony writes:

Hi,
Question on first editions: How do we customers find out which publication (UK, USA) is the real first edition? Is there any markings on a page or a special numbering? Karin Slaughter, Lee Child, etc. are authors that may publish on both sides of the pond at the same time. I think Michael Connelly has done so too.

Thanks,
Anthony P.

Virginia replies:

Hi Anthony -

It is a difficult answer - as true first editions of books vary from title to title. It is probably safe to say that for authors residing in the UK (and other foreign locales), those books would be first released in the UK.

It is becoming more frequent for top-selling authors, Lee Child, Michael Connelly et. al., to schedule simultaneous releases.

I'm sorry there is no easy answer, but you have to inquire on a book-by-book basis. As a side note, that is why we (at least) post the release year on the author bibliographies we post (their author pages).
