Ethan HawkeEthan Green Hawke (born November 6, 1970) is a four-time Academy Award-nominated American actor, writer and film director. He was born in Austin, Texas. He was admitted to the prestigious Carnegie-Mellon University to study theatre but his studies were interrupted when he won his break-through role opposite Robin Williams in Dead Poets Society (1989) and he didn't complete his degree. He twice enrolled in New York University's English program, but dropped out both times to pursue acting roles.

In 2001, he was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Training Day. Hawke has written three novels, The Hottest State (in 1996) , Ash Wednesday (in 2002), and Rules for a Knight (coming November 2015).

In 2005, he received his first screenwriting Oscar nomination for co-writing the 2004 film, Before Sunset (a sequel to Before Sunrise). From October 2006 through May 2007, he was in The Coast of Utopia by Tom Stoppard at Lincoln Center in New York, playing Mikhail Bakunin. For this performance, he was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play.

He lives in Brooklyn with his family.
