What is a Deckle Edge?

"Rough cut" is also known as "deckled edged" - the pages of the book are not smooth, but have a more "antiquarian" look and feel. Uneven book page edges appear uncut or untrimmed, but it is intentional. Deckle-edged books were the original standard in publishing. See John's response to a similar question here.
