Author Jonathan MaberryJonathan Maberry (aka Shane MacDougall) was born in Kensington, Philadelphia in 1958 and attended Temple University. He has been writing professionally, at least part time, since he was 20, starting with magazine feature articles. His past jobs have included bodyguard, teacher at Tempe University in Arizona, and martial arts instructor.

Maberry has written extensively in the non-fiction genre about martial arts and the paranormal. In 2007, Maberry began writing novels, starting with Ghost Road Blues, which won that year's Bram Stoker Award for Best First Novel. He now has more than 30 published novels to his name and 15 nonfiction titles. He has also short stories and college textbooks, as well as various comics for publishers such as Marvel and Dark Horse. He has done a number of media-tie ins and the novelization of The Wolfman. Maberry has won the Bram Stoker Award no less than six times, and been nominated for several other awards.

Maberry is considered an expert in the occult and has spoken at writing and genre events and appeared as a guest on several television programs. Besides being a adept writer, he also has an 8th degree blackbelt in Shinowara-ryu Jujutsu.

Maberry now lives in Del Mar, California with his wife Sara Jo and their dog.
