VJ Books Presents Author Loren D. Estleman!
Loren D. Estleman was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan in 1952 and grew up in a 19th Century farmhouse. He studied English Literature and Journalism at Eastern Michigan University, and was later presented with an honorary doctorate in Humane Letters by the same.
Estleman began writing as a child, sending his first short story off for review at age 15. His work earned him over 160 rejections, but his determination prevailed. He published his first novel, The Oklahoma Punk, in 1976. To date, he has over 70 published novels alone. He has contributed to many short fiction anthologies and non-fiction works on the subject of writing. In addition, Estleman has written book reviews for many newspapers, including The New York Times and The Washington Post, and in 1988 he covered the filming of Lonesome Dove for TV Guide.
Estleman prefers to write on a manual typewriter, and he writes mostly within the mystery and western genres. His work has earned him a multitude of awards including four Shamus Awards from the Private Eye Writers of America, five Spur Awards from the Western Writers of America, and awards for Lifetime Achievement from both of those organisations as well as the Short Mystery Fiction Society and the .
Estleman is married to mystery writer Deborah Morgan and lives in Michigan.
