Thomas HarrisThomas Harris was born in Jackson, Tennessee in 1940, and grew up in Rich, Mississippi. He earned a degree in English from Baylor University. During this time, he also worked as a crime reporter for the Waco Herald. He later lived in New York while working for the Associated Press.

As a novelist and screenwriter, he is best known for a series of suspense novels about his most famous character, Hannibal Lecter. All of his works have been made into films, the most notable being the multi-Oscar winning The Silence of the Lambs, which became only the third film in Academy Award history to sweep the Oscars in major categories. Harris tends to avoid publicity, but his friends and colleagues say of him that he loves cooking and embodies old-fashioned Southern manners. He has one daughter, Elizabeth Anne, and lives with his partner, Pace Barnes in Florida.
